For the people who like metal!

Post by Ithii » Mon Sep 28, 2009 11:32 pm

Going to write down a few of the albums/artists im currently enjoying wildly, incase anyone got bored with what they have right now!

Right, to start off i'm going to recommend Behemoths latest album. Evangelion is basically my favorite album of this year so far, i don't know if i can say i've listened to anything so intensly for a long time. And yes, it is quite extreme and brutal in lyrics and music. But it's, if you ask me an easier album to approach then their previous ones. so, Behemoth - Evangelion. 4.5/5 for me!

Something i found today after being alerted of its existence is a new album from Arch Enemy, with re-recordings of old tracks when Angela Gossow (singer) wasn't around. And basically, it all sounds better with her vocals on it. Arch Enemy - The Root of All Evil got 4/5 from me!

Mastodon, a prog-metal/rock band who i didn't at all see the genious in until i really sat down and listened with an unbiased ear. It's brilliance and i adore every album they've released to date. However of their albums im going to recommend Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye, just because it's got incredible flow and overall you just get taken in and if you really embrace the music you will be able to listen entire albums and afterwards feeling calm and.. you just want more!

Hatesphere! For the days when you just want to power down and kill shit with massive power and after they're dead you want to sit down and bask in the glory of your kill. Basically any album works, but im a big fan of The Sickness Within and the latest album To The Nines, just awesome shit really!

The Black Dahlia Murder, i would say that the time you'd listen to this normally would be when you get home from work after a day when you're boss has been more unappreciative then usual and on your ass. You want to kill someone, basically. Nocturnal with them is awesome.

Going to keep on going as soon as i can!

All too heavy for my taste :D

I listen to metal, but mostly the softer kind.
(Helloween, Edguy, Angra, Shaman, Heavenly, Royal Hunt, Avantasia, Fair warning, Dreamtide)

You should try mastodon kellendil, not very brutal or "deathmetal" at all. Categorized in the progrock/metal genre they are just "different" from other metal =P

Addition to the list, Heaven Shall Burn. A german "metalcore" band, excellent vocals and pretty brutal music. I'd say its a brutal version of what In Flames used to be. The latest album Endzeit is really a good album and this i'd recommend for anyone who likes in flames or melodic death metal at all.

I'm more into trance than metal, but this is sooo brutal!
I like some more melodic bands like Sonic Syndicate and Disarmonia Mundi. ;)
Old people at weddings usually poke me and say "You're next". So I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.

These are some really good bands, especially Black dahlia murder and Arch enemys latest album, although this isn't really my favourite metal genres. I'm more into Metalcore and Deathcore.

Examples:

My absolute favourite song atm, Darkest Hour - Demon(s)

Protest the Hero - Bloodmeat

The Devil Wears Prada - Big Wiggly Style

Trivium - Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr

And if i'm in the mood for something harder:

Suicide Silence - Bludgeoned

Here Comes the Kraken - Don't Fail Me Darko

These are just some songs, i also listen ALOT to old metal/rock like Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, Queen, Pearl Jam etc etc

Gamma Ray's live album from Montréal is pretty good stuff (Hell Yeah - The Awesome Foursome) (Spotify)
Helloween live album from Sao Paulo (Keeper of the Seven Keys - The Legacy World Tour) (Spotify)
Whoracle by In Flames, IMO their best album. The new stuff sucks. (Spotify)
Black Sails at Midnight by Alestorm. (Spotify)
Miklagard Overture by Turisas (YT)
Therion (YT)
Haggard (YT)
Korpiklaani
on why consuming alcoholic beverages are good for you (YT)
Swashbuckle because this post lacked the awesomeness that only pirates can bring. (YT)
Ex Deo (YT)
Soilwork (YT)
Sabaton (YT)
Falkenbach (YT)
Týr (YT)
Ensiferum (YT)
Wolfchant (YT)

As some may notice, I'm heavily into the genre known as "folk metal" and "symphonic metal", however; it would be criminal to leave out excellent bands such as Judas Priest(The 70's and 80's Priest) whom can be seen as one of the founders(builders at the very least) in the metal-scene, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Megadeth and even though i really dislike Metallica I'll have to admit that they are one of the all time greats. Lars Ulrich can die in a fire though. I do listen to other music aswell, such as Die Toten Hosen and Veronica Maggio(not).

I'm gonna outdated in the metal scene, but here are some of those I used to listen to a lot. Some of them just sound like static noise to me nowadays.

Immortal
Borknagar
Tyr
Ihsahn
Enslaved
Keep of Kalessin
Zyklon
Gorgoroth
Satyricon
Meshuggah
Dimmu Borgir
Emperor
Korpiklaani
Windir
Seigmen
Ulver

Heaven Shall Burn is very brutal and awesome. Counterweight and Of No Avail lies near to my black heart.
